A Little About Us

Farnham Aviation Services (FAS) is the FBO (fixed base operator) of the Boone Municipal Airport in Boone, Iowa.  Serving the Boone area since 2017, FAS offers flight and ground instruction, aviation fuels,  aircraft maintenance and repair, and aircraft rentals.

Flight and Ground Instruction

Interested in earning your pilot's license?  How about taking a discovery flight?  Farnham Aviation Services provides flight and ground instruction for the private pilot, sport pilot, and commercial pilot certificates, as  well as the instrument rating.  For those in need of recurrent training, we provide flight reviews, instrument proficiency checks, and refresher courses to get you back in the air.  In addition, FAS offers tailwheel training for those pilots interested in earning the tailwheel endorsement.  We are one of the few flight schools in the Midwest that offers this type of training.

Aircraft Maintenance and Repair

Farnham Aviation Services offers Airframe and Powerplant-Inspection Authorization (A&P-IA) certified mechanics who provide all-around maintenance on piston-powered single and multi-engine aircraft.  This includes, but is not limited to, 100-hour and annual inspections, engine removal and installation, cylinder removal and installation, fabric and metal work, minor paint work, interior replacement, and pre-buy inspections.  Our mechanics have a combined total of over 90 years of general aviation maintenance and repair experience.

Aircraft Rentals and Aviation Fuels

Farnham Aviation Services currently offers four general aviation aircraft for flight instruction and rental -- a 1946 Aeronca 7AC Champ (VFR); a 1980 Bellanca 7ECA Citabria (VFR); a 1973 Piper Cherokee 140 (IFR); and a 1975 Piper Cherokee 140/160 (IFR).  FAS offers three grades of aviation fuel -- 100LL Avgas, Mogas (a blend of 75% 87-octane & 25% 100LL), and Jet A.  We also offer Phillips 66 and AeroShell brand aviation lubricants.  Contact us for pricing information and availability.

Airport Information

Boone Municipal Airport (KBNW) is located on the eastern edge of town, two miles from downtown Boone, and one mile north of US Highway 30. Ames, home to Iowa State University, is 15 miles to the east, while Des Moines, Iowa's capital and largest city, is 50 miles to the south. Ames and Des Moines are linked to Boone by four-lane highway.

The primary runway at KBNW (15/33) is 4,807' by 75' concrete and can accommodate aircraft from light sport to medium-sized business jets.  There are RNAV(GPS) approaches for both runways.  For the tailwheel enthusiast, KBNW offers a very well-groomed turf runway (02/20) that is 3,190' by 220'.  A courtesy car is available for those seeking ground transportation.
